Dear Japaneese Educational Sociologists,

from the website of Your Society I was not able to find particular persons who are interested in the Sociology of Education.
That is why I am addressing whoeve can read this message, with the hope to receive a positive reply as soon as possible.

Please let me introduce myself briefly and explain the reason of this message. I'm a sociologist of education and work at the Novgorod state university (Russia, North-West) and have published in this subject area widely (please see my CV or my page at the University's website
http://www.novsu.ru/person/oam/i.75526/?man_id=87788&typeShow=1).

We here at NovSU are planning to make a new book (2011) devoted to the description of trends in the sociological (and related) studies of education, but aimed mainly at geographical aspects. The idea is to show how the field is being developed in different continents and countries.
Unfortunately, Russian researchers in Sociology of Education usually have access to materials developed mainly in the USA and Western Europe, that brings to a certain "geographical" dependence and "europeization" and "americanization" of our social-educational studies.

So, I am addressing Japaneese experts in the Sociology of Education (SoE). It would be good to contact at least one of the leading experts in SoE to kindly ask them to present their papers describing briefly:
  1. history of Sociology of Education in Japan (when and where this branch of Sociology appeared first, what were the main stages/periods in the development, what difficulties the field experienced in the past if any, what were research topics in the concrete sociological investigations in the country), up to 3-5 pages;
  2. contemporary mapping of research centers and schools (universities, academies, institutes, etc.) where sociological studies of education are being most active and productive (with brief comments on the most important works and theorists), up to 5-7 pages;
  3. if possible, to comment on possible international influences that can be notable to understand the developments in this Сountry's Sociology of Education, 2-3 pages;
  4. expert's vision of the tasks and priorities of the national Sociology of Education, 3-5 pages.

We welcome the papers (manuscripts or previously published texts) in English or Russian, but before mid Summer 2010. Other languages are also ecceptable.
Then all documents will be translated into Russian. The Author will fully enjoy his/her copy-right for his/her part/article in the future Collection. In case that a permission by the copy-right holder (Author or Publisher) is required, we will surely contact in advance all relevant institutions/persons. No publication will be made in the future Collection without appropriate permissons. We will follow in complience with national or international regulations as we did in collaboration with Dr. Prof. Jeanne Ballantine (of WSU) in our previous Collection (2009) supported by the Fulbright Program [Social Theory of Education: International Exchanges, Osipov A., Ed.; ISBN 978-5-89896-367-5] and the SAGE PUBLICATIONS.

We believe that this new publication can be important to develop further international collaboration of educational sociologists.

In Russian, if a manuscript is accepted to the collection, we will provide the best possible translation from the original. In the editing process we will discuss and agree with the Authors all necessary details before printing.

We will surely provide that all Authors receive a Russian copy of the book (shipping/mailing expences covered by us).
The book will be disseminated among Russian sociologists of education,
Russian universities, Schools of sociology and Education, Russian libraries. It will contribute to the progress of this subject area in Russia and the former republics of the USSR.

Dear Japaneese Sociologists, I kindly invite you to present a paper for our Collection. If my invitation is not acceptable, please readdress me to another Japaneese expert in the Sociology of Education.

Hoping to hear from you soon,
sincerely,
Dr. Alexander Osipov                        mailto:al_osipov@mail.natm.ru
