National Diet Library

The central national library of Japan. It provides a database of journal articles published in Japan: "Zassi Kizi Sakuin". You can access it from NDL OPAC (Japanese Only). In principle it should catalogue all journals published in Japan, but in fact misses out many journals (perhaps due to some kinds of troubles at the donation): for instance, Japanese Journal of Family Sociology (volumes before 1995 are missed), Sociological Theory and Methods (volumes before 1995 are missed), Annals of Japan Association for Urban Sociology (all the volumes since the foundation in 1983 are missed), and so on (from the search interface page you can access a list of the journal volumes included in the database, but most entries of the list are now "under investigation" (2003-01-16)).

Tokyo Metropolitan Library

Online catalogue including contents and authors of each chapter in a book. Unfortunately, the search service is Japanese only.

Webcat Plus (National Institute of Informatics; Japanese only)

An unified catalogue of Japanese books from Nacsis Webcat mentioned above and some databases by booksellers. You can use the service of associative searching to search the table of contents and catch phrases for books.

Book Contents (University of Tokyo Library; Japanese Only)

You can search the table of contents and catch phrases for books held by the Library of University of Tokyo, for both Japanese and English books.
