I. Conference Schedule

Friday, June 24th - Sunday, June 26th, 2022

II. Keynote Symposium and Selected Research Session Themes

The open symposium will address the theme of "Internationalization of Education Research and the Role of Comparative and International Education.” We will exchange opinions on the internationalization of education research and the role of comparative and international education from a broad perspective based on theory and practice, and discuss the future of comparative and international education.

The conference will provide two Selected Research Sessions. Under the theme of "Reconsidering the Roles and Duties of Teachers in Schools: What We Have Learned through the Experience of the COVID-19 Pandemic,” the Selected Research Session I will focus on case studies of the US, the Netherlands, Australia, Brazil, and Japan with the purpose of examining 1) how teachers have responded to the various "changes" and "alterations" that were required by schools in the wake of this pandemic, and 2) how these "changes" and "alterations" are expected to affect the roles and work of teachers. Along with these "changes" and "alterations," the session will also consider the nature of the teacher’s profession as it emerges through these case studies.

In the Selected Research Session II, the Research Committee of JCES is planning to give a focus on the "Reverse Gender Gap in Higher Education: An International Comparison of Southeast Asia. This is an international comparative study focusing on the "reverse gender gap" phenomenon in which the number of women outnumber men in higher education, and mainly on Southeast Asian countries where this phenomenon is observed. This study attempts to clarify the current situation of the reverse gender gap phenomenon in Southeast Asia, as well as the background and factors that give rise to this phenomenon. In addition, the session is expected to provide a new perspective on the study of "gender and education" in comparative pedagogy by presenting a case study of Southeast Asia where women's higher education and work-life careers are diversely linked.
